Web 3.0 (More Disruption, More adoption, + 3D)

Just my 2 cents on the next generation architecture that will be used with web 3.0 (or whatever it gets called). There are MANY views on what web 3.0 will be, but most likely the users of the internet will determine the true definition as time passes…

Installable Software and Web Based software will converge until it is hard to determine which is which. ‘Real Time’ updates to content will be shown on the users device with the ability to save or modify documents/Photos/Video or Music via the device (Browser, Phone, etc..)

And lets not ignore the fascination around 3D and the impact it is having now, SecondLife.com ,  3b.net, Google Earth, all are being widely adopted and the trend does not seem to be tailing off.

Web browsers, phones and basically all devices that have access to the internet will converge to where they offer the same level of functionality. Security will have much more of a focus as people move between devices and manage multiple passwords. The device of the future will almost certainly use some sort of biometric authentication, some common methodologies are listed below.

  • - Retinal scanning
  • - Finger Print
  • - Voice Recognition

Another problem that needs to be solved by web 3.0 is that people have multiple places where they store photos, video, avatars, friend networks, etc… My concept is that there will be third party aggregators for this info and that sites like MySpace, Facebook, and others will consume it. Access to changing this information could only be accessed biometrically via a device but viewing the information could be controlled on a case by case basis. Financial (and other sensitive information) would be handled by a system with additional access control mechanisms. Why would I want to create 6 different avatars, or store my photos in 5 different places? How about a paying for a book at Amazon.com by clicking a hyperlink and then dragging my thumb across a biometric reader, then amazon would pull my payment information across a secure web service?

In addition, the use of web services will continue to grow and different providers will conform to agreed upon standards including a catalog of common web services for accessing information from the content aggregators. Third party certification agencies would be needed to objectively measure a sites compliance to give the user community a sense of security.

Just a quick mockup I did in powerpoint to get my point across, all of the pieces are available in some form today, there just needs to be some convergence on how to get it to be adopted by the masses. Comments welcome…
