phonezoo.com [web 2.0 review]

PhoneZoo.com is a site to create and share ringtones with others including those in your network that you manage on the phonezoo site. This is a cool web 2.0 site that focuses on a real need (want) with today’s teens and 20 somethings.

Some of the things you can do:

  •  Create custom ringtones for free and save them in My Zoo
  •  Add copies of ringtones others have created to My Zoo
  •  Add people to your list of “Friends” and see the ringtones they have created
  •  Rate and comment on the ringtones people have posted

A cool thing about the Phonezoo site is the ability to search for ringtones that you can download to your phone, see if there copyrighted and also how popular…

See who’s online, how many ringtones the member has created and the newest members at ‘the Zoo’.

Overall I liked the site and having searched in vain for ringtones in the past, I am glad to have found phonezoo. Based on the traffic observed on Alexa, it appears the web community also has embraced Phonezoo…

findmeon.com [web 2.0 review]

I blogged the other day on trying to consolidate multiple identities online and came across findmeon.com in my researching. They have made a great attempt at coming up with a model that works and is easy to use. They have built a platform that is secure and offers you the ability to keep certain items private. In addition there are existing widgets and API’s for companies to build their own widgets that can be embedded inside blogs, sites, etc…

Findmeon offers the ability to link the Social Networking identities you chose and have ‘badges’ appear on your pages that help link your identities. This is definitely a service that people have been looking for and if the adoption rate is high enough, can really take off.

spokeo.com [web 2.0 review]

I was waiting for a site to come along and help me stay up on all my friends and the changes to their personal pages and blogs.

Spokeo checks on your friends to see who’s favorited new videos on Youtube, uploaded photos to MySpace, or blogged on Blogger. Spokeo tracks friends for you, so you won’t miss an update. These are words from Spokeo.com but I couldn’t have said it better myself.

This technology will allow you to stay connected with anyone using any of the top blogging or Social Networking sites out there including:

Needless to say, there will be more sites added to track in Spokeo and new capabilities added to Spokeo as well, so this site is one to watch!

parkwhiz.com [web 2.0 review]

I recently sat through a presentation by Jon from datawhiz.com at the Hatchery event in NY. This is a well thought out concept and implementation of a system to allow parking garages and individuals to list their parking spots for rent for the day/evening.  Consider a concert is happening near by and there is a parking shortage, just go on this easy to use website and list your spot for rent. A site user can go on and search for parking near the zip code or address and the results will be shown in both a tabular and map format. You can also search within a time range and when the results are shown, filter by ‘Walking time to Destination’ and price.

Possible parking spots are highlighted on the map and you can pick and choose by locality and price to pick the one you want. There is also the concept of rating the parking vendors so that users will be informed about the past experiences at that location.

Overall, very cool site that I can see myself using when I go into NY for an event or concert. The site is easy to use with a Web 2.0 feel that will be embraced by those living in or near a big city.
